Auditions: Complemento, a classic Colombian Comedy

eSe Teatro and Latitude Theatre are holding auditions for Complemento, the English translation of a classic Colombian comedy of errors by Rafael Guizado, translated by Gigi Guizado, and directed by Montse Garza.
About the Play
Complemento earned his name by being what others lack. When he eavesdrops on the lover’s quarrel between Clara and Antonio in the park, his strong sense of duty to help others compels him to befriend the heartbroken Clara. But is he really a long-lost friend, or just trying to take advantage of the situation?
Originally performed as a radio drama in 1940, Complemento has had a rich history, especially in Colombia’s radio theatre, with multiple broadcasts through the 1970s. Important Dates
Auditions are April 25, 2026 (12pm-6pm). Callbacks will be held on Sunday, May 3rd (2-5pm).
Auditions and Callbacks will be in-person at the University Heights Center. We prefer to meet you in-person, but if you're absolutely unavailable on April 25th, send us an email and we will tell you how to submit a video audition.
Rehearsals begin the week of June 14 and will be on Sundays, Monday-Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings/afternoons (no more than 5 rehearsals per week). There will be no rehearsal on July 4th.
Tech rehearsals and performances will be at TPS Center Theater beginning July 27. The show runs August 1 – 30, 2026.
Pay
All actors will receive a stipend of $800
Casting Information
We value diversity and inclusion in casting. Actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, body types and abilities are encouraged to audition.
BIPOC and other actors who identify as part of groups which have been historically underrepresented on stage are especially invited.
We recognize that characters are written in the binary (she/her or he/him); we invite nonbinary, genderqueer, transgender and GNC actors to audition for the roles with which they identify.

Audition Requirements
Please prepare a 1 minute comedic, non-Shakespearean monologue of your choosing for the audition. You will also be asked to read a brief side (which will be provided at the audition). If you are a Spanish language speaker, please be prepared to demonstrate Spanish speaking ability.
Character Breakdown
COMPLEMENTO – 20-40s (he/him). A bit of a shape-shifter, needs others to feel complete, possibly a queer individual
CLARA – 20-30s (she/her). A self-described “serious person”, has a "face full of light", believes in taking a risk for love, engaged to Antonio
ANTONIO – 20-30s (he/him). A businessman with dreams of greater things, engaged to Clara
BLANCA – 20-30s (she/her). Ambitious, a "dangerous woman", engaged to Clara's brother Ricardo
ALICIA – 40-60s (she/her). A diligent housekeeper with “a woman’s work is never done” attitude, Clara's mother, married to Joaquin
JOAQUIN – 40-60s (he/him). A hard-working businessman who hasn't taken a vacation in years, Clara's father, married to Alicia
ELVIRA – 20s-30s (she/her). A sensitive individual, from a different time than the other characters
